Optimize the performance and SEO of a WordPress site
As a freelance WordPress integrator, I reached out to Sarah, the founder of "Chic Dressing," offering my services to optimize her website. After conducting quick audits and identifying performance issues, I provided recommendations to enhance SEO, accessibility, and site performance. Upon Sarah's approval, I proceeded to optimize the site by addressing identified issues and providing an optimized archive for WordPress migration. Additionally, I conducted a Google Lighthouse audit and provided detailed reports to showcase performance improvements.
Initial Site Configuration:
Cloning the client's site to a local environment following provided instructions. Importing files and the database, then modifying the wp-config.php file with local database credentials. Using the search and replace function to update site URLs.
Performance Optimization:
Duplication of the site locally. Improving the Google Lighthouse performance score. Recommendations for optimizing images, static resources (CSS, JS), and external resources like Google Fonts. Points of caution regarding deferred loading of JS and CSS files. Finalizing performance optimizations on the site.
SEO Issue Correction:
Fixing performance issues. Installing and configuring an SEO plugin like "SEO Press". Configuring title and description tags, optimizing indexing, permalinks, and implementing a site map. Modifying title hierarchy and optimizing image attributes. Adjusting contrast and text body size.
Performance Report and Comparison:
Downloading a PDF report of Google Lighthouse performance. Completing the performance comparison table before and after.
